BioAfter finishing his studies at several conservatories in Flanders with honors, Geert Van Gele went on to co-found the world-famous Flanders Recorder Quartet. For ten years he concertized with this ensemble in Europe and North and South America, and won several international competitions, including the Musica Antiqua competition in Bruges in 1990. This intensive collaboration resulted in several recordings, such as Vivaldišs The Four Seasons, recorded together with Marion Verbruggen for Harmonia Mundi America. Geert Van Gele often teaches at Amherst Early Music workshops, and is regularly invited to give masterclasses in Belgium and abroad. As a soloist he is admired as much for his Bach interpretations and his performances of early Italian baroque music as for his mastery of contemporary recorder literature.
